ISRAEL-PALESTINE
Omens of a third Intifada
Analysis by Mel Frykberg Qalandia, West Bank, May 16 (IPS) - Israel miscalculated. He thought it would keep under control the day of the Nakba (catastrophe), commemorated with three days of demonstrations that culminated in The Long March, in memory of the mass displacement of Palestinians that 63 years ago marked the birth of the Jewish state.
Those three days of mourning, marked by protests, demonstrations, marches and riots, culminating on Sunday in the Long March. Thousands of unarmed Palestinian refugees marched through the borders of Israel from the West Bank, Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt.
In Syria, tens managed to climb the border fence and cross into the Golan Heights, annexed by Israel. The Israeli army shot and killed about 14 demonstrators in Lebanon and Syria, accusing the Lebanese forces to be responsible for the deaths of their own countrymen.
These border crossings were taken by surprise intelligence officials and security of Israel. Waiting for mass demonstrations in the occupied territories and Israel itself, thousands of riot police were put on alert in areas where anticipated extreme fighting. Few soldiers were in charge of the northern borders.
security forces prevented Egypt and Jordan Hundreds of pro-Palestinian supporters from crossing into Israel. Egyptian police dispersal methods used against thousands of demonstrators in Alexandria and Cairo, protesting outside the embassy and the consulate of Israel.
Meanwhile, thousands of Palestinians wounded in West Bank and Gaza. Israeli troops fired their machine guns against hundreds of unarmed Palestinians, many of them women and children, as they approached the Erez crossing in northern Gaza Strip. A Palestinian was killed and dozens seriously injured. IPS
spent Sunday at the intersection of Qalandia, in occupied East Jerusalem. During the day, ambulances with their sirens blaring were a side to side as they struggled to negotiate the passage in the streets, where some 1,000 Palestinian youths clashed with hundreds of Israeli soldiers, as well as riot police and undercover.
burning tires off a black smoke was mixed with clouds of tear gas. Dozens of Palestinians were treated for complications resulting from inhaling the gas, and some doctors were attacked while commenting on the unusual intensity of the gas.
Dozens of other Palestinians were treated for injuries they received from the bullets of rubber-coated steel, fired from close range.
Qalandia Clashes, which continued into the evening, were marked by relentless waves of young men who approached the checkpoint until gas and rubber bullets made them retreat. Challenging atmosphere was characterized by what appears to be a new unity of purpose.
One of the masked protesters paused to eat a sandwich and drink some water, told IPS that the Israelis will fight to the end.
"They want to drive to my grandparents' home in Sheikh Jarrah in East Jerusalem. Perhaps we should sit idly by do not think so," he told IPS.
As I watched the fighting, Yazen, shopowner windshield, told IPS that "another Palestinian uprising (Intifada) is coming. "
In the first Intifada, Yazen spent six years in an Israeli prison. His brother is currently serving a sentence of 17 years for armed resistance to occupation.
Activists from both major parties Palestinian Fatah and Hamas (the Arabic acronym for Islamic Resistance Movement) remained steady while busloads of Palestinians from other West Bank cities and villages joined them.
The businesses located along the street turned into makeshift clinics while Palestinian medical teams treated the wounded on the floor. The merchants, who decided no work that day, allowed the protesters refuge from the bullets and gas and gave them water and tissues.
Working at home handing out potatoes and chopped onions, antidotes against tear gas as protesters went to the aid of their wounded comrades.
Although the saturation of media coverage and other international hot spots Qalandia probably ensured that Israeli forces are contained in other areas further away from the media gaze were accused of using tactics of intimidation and vindictiveness in dealing with the demonstrators. On Friday, during protests against the wall separating the West Bank Israel in the village of Nabi Saleh, near Ramallah, a tear gas canister thrown at close range hit the head of a U.S. citizen. The fact seems to be a deliberate attack by Israeli forces.
The man was seriously injured by the blow and was taken to hospital. According to Israeli law, these high-speed vessels must be fired up, forming an arc, not less than 40 feet away, due to its lethal nature.
In recent years, several other U.S. citizens suffered brain damage and even lost an eye in the wake of similar attacks. Countless Palestinians have died or been injured in incidents identical.
An Israeli activist who broke his arm when Israeli soldiers fired at him, had to walk several kilometers on a rough terrain for medical treatment after the commanding officer of Nabi Saleh prevented ambulances were made to evacuate these the wounded.
Israeli intelligence had predicted that there would be riots on Sunday, but said in confidence that would be limited and would be beyond control.
however, seems to be wrong. Experts predict the possible outbreak of a third intifada (the first was in 1987 and the second in 2000) to September, when the Authority Palestinian submit its claim for an independent state before the United Nations Organization.

Abbas declared three days of mourning and ordered the crackdown on the massive pro-Palestinian marches
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Sunday three days of mourning and ordered the deaths of 15 Palestinian demonstrators in clashes with Israeli soldiers massive refugee marches across five borders of Israel to demand the creation of a state.
In Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the performance of the Army and said his country wants peace with a Palestinian state who wants to end the conflict, not to continue, in a clear reference to the recent reconciliation and political pact between Abbas and the radical anti-Israel group Hamas.
marches on Sunday, the date recalls the uprooting of more than 750,000 Palestinians by the creation of the State of Israel, in 1948, came amid dissatisfaction with the Abbas government stalled efforts to create a state Palestinian expressed publicly on numerous occasions.
marches initiative, which is unprecedented, also coincides with an Arab world, emboldened by a wave of protests that covers much of the Middle East.
Abbas, who West considers a "moderate" and that has long been in search of alternative ways to achieve a Palestinian state, today condemned the killing of demonstrators who tried to violate the borders of Israel from the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan.
"Your blood will not be spilled in vain, because his blood was shed for freedom and the rights of our people," said Abbas.
flags on public buildings of the Palestinian West Bank region were collected up to half mast.
The Israeli army said on Sunday that the demonstrations were prompted by Iran with the help of regional allies: Syria, the Islamist group Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Islamist movement Hamas in Gaza.
Abbas's government said it was a purely Palestinian initiative organized through Facebook by a group of activists, many of whom live in exile.
Authorities said at least 15 Palestinians, all refugees living in camps in southern Syria and Lebanon, were shot dead by Israeli soldiers. The Israeli army said it opened fire on "troublemakers" who violated the border and threw stones at soldiers.
Four of the deaths occurred in the Golan Heights, a territory occupied by Israel from Syria during the war Six Days, in 1967.
The White House yesterday supported the Israeli view that the facts were encouraged by Syria.
"We are deeply against the Syrian government's role in inciting the protests yesterday in the Golan Heights," said White House spokesman, Jay Carney.
"Such conduct is unacceptable and serves as distracting from the ongoing repression of the Syrian government demonstrations in their own country," Carney was quoted by CNN.
in Israel, and in a clear allusion to Hamas, Prime Minister Netanyahu told parliament that his country "can not make peace" with a government if it includes a group which, like the Palestinian Islamist movement aims at the destruction of Israel.
Netanyahu questioned the Palestinians' commitment to peace after the demonstrations and violence yesterday, and stressed that Hamas leaders call for end of the "Zionist enterprise."
The Israeli government also announced it planned to lodge a protest against Syria and Lebanon at the UN. In
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon issued a statement Sunday that said he was "troubled" by violence and asked to avoid provocation, tension and civilian casualties.
yesterday agitation spread to Egypt, where police fired tear gas and shots into the air to disperse thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators who protested against Israel's embassy in Cairo.
Protesters burned an Israeli flag, chanted anti-Israel and demanded the expulsion of Ambassador cries of the Jewish state.
Twenty people were arrested and 353 were injured in clashes with police, Egyptian officials said.
The Israeli army stepped up its presence in the North, having been taken by surprise Sunday, according to military admitted Jews.
Israel expected any unrest on the anniversary of exile focus on mass Palestinian West Bank, as in previous years.
The Golan Heights, hundreds of Palestinian refugees crossed the Syrian border and infiltrated the territory, which Israel annexed after the 1967 war in a move not recognized by the international community.
Four infiltrators were killed in clashes with Israeli security forces.
limit in nearby Lebanon, at least 10 people were killed by fire from Israeli soldiers as they approached the border fence with Israel, Lebanon, officials said.
Another Palestinian, the fatality number 15, was fatally shot by an Israeli sniper when inattentive plant a bomb, Israeli military sources said.
In Jordan, the police clashed with Palestinians who tried to cross into Israel and said that 25 people, including 11 policemen Jordanians, were injured.
The outbreak of violence came at a critical moment for the peace process in the Middle East and in particular for the U.S. role, the main guarantor of all agreements signed.
George Mitchell, the Middle East envoy of President Barack Obama resigned Friday after more than two years of fruitless efforts, and the U.S. leader is scheduled to give a speech this week on the Middle East and receive Netanyahu at the White House .
In the absence of peace talks, Abbas plans to call a vote at the UN in September to recognize a Palestinian state, with or without prior agreement with Israel.

Incidents in Israel in memory of the Catastrophe
A massive mobilization of Palestinians and unprecedented violence on Sunday left at least 21 dead and 130 wounded in Gaza and the West Bank, on the border between Lebanon and Israel, and the Golan Heights, during the commemoration of "Al-Nakba" ("The Catastrophe"). That is called the period beginning in 1948 with the exodus of 700 000 Palestinian inhabitants of the land that later formed the State of Israel. This is one of the most serious border incidents between the two countries since the Arab-Israeli war of 1973.
In the Palestinian territories of Gaza and the West Bank, hundreds of protesters gathered at the point of access to Israel to demand the return of the 1967 borders before the Six Day War. "I have ordered the army to act with utmost restraint to avoid any infiltration of our borders," said the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Israel maintains troops at war on the borders with Syria and Lebanon U.S.
Damascus accuses feed Nakba protests in the occupied yesterday
Israel maintained its security forces on a war footing at the borders of Lebanon and Syria, following clashes on Sunday in commemoration of the Nakba (catastrophe)-the exodus of thousands of Palestinians following the establishment of the State of Israel. The easy infiltration from Syria than a hundred protesters in the town of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights, territory occupied by Israel, provoked a storm of criticism from the media for "lack of preparation" of the Israeli Army.
According to a provisional report, Israeli forces killed at least 12 people at the borders with Lebanon and Syria: 10 Lebanese side and at least two in Majdal Shams. Another 300 Palestinians were injured in the Lebanese border in the Golan Heights, the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
The press put the accent on the "siege" of Israel "attacked on all sides" and insists on the precedent means that the demonstrators could enter by force in the Golan. "There are no borders", headlines on the front page the Yedi Aharonot, Maariv and Israel while Hayom, two popular newspapers, speak of the "battle of the fence." Haaretz notes that the "Syrians are on the fence", referring to the 1973 surprise attack by Syria against Israel.
Blow to the army
Such was the blow to the image of the Army's own chief of staff, Benny Ganz, admitted that the balance of the intervention on the Golan "is not good." Strategic Affairs Minister, Moshe Yaalon, told the radio that Israel must "make clear to all who seek to enter by force in our country, whether armed or not, that Israel is a sovereign country."
Several commentators felt that the events of Sunday could be a dress rehearsal before September, when Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas expected to ask the UN to recognize a Palestinian state in failing to restart negotiations with Israel. "The Arab revolution strikes at the gates of Israel," said the columnist Aluf Benn in Haaretz.
On the ground, the Israeli army continued its "advanced state of alert in both the northern military region (Gaza and Egypt) and Central (West Bank)," said General Yoav Mordechai.
On the diplomatic front, Israel filed a complaint against Syria and Lebanon to the presidency of the Security Council and UN Secretary General. Lebanon did the same against Israel.
The White House accused Syria of fueling the Palestinian protests to distract attention from the face of repression against opponents of the regime of Bashar Assad. Furthermore, he regretted the deaths and called for maximum restraint on the Israelis and Palestinians, but said Israel has a right to prevent unauthorized crossings.

Obama and King Abdullah urged Israel and Palestinians to advance peace negotiations
Print Decrease Normal Increase U.S. President Barack Obama, and King Abdullah II of Jordan agreed today on the need for Israelis and Palestinians continue with peace talks, stalled for months.
Negotiating peace in the Middle East is now more important than ever, "Obama said Thursday after meeting with King Abdullah II, in what is their first meeting since the outbreak of popular unrest in the region in January.
two leaders were scheduled to address this issue in their meeting, but also spoke of the delicate situation in which the peace talks in the Middle East.
After the meeting, Obama made it clear the U.S. commitment to promote a "just and equitable" for the region.
Direct talks between Israelis and Palestinians resumed on September 2 last year after heavy pressure from the U.S., but were interrupted weeks after the expiry of the September 26 Israeli moratorium on the construction of new settlements West Bank.
In December, the U.S. Government admitted he had failed to achieve the Israeli commitment to a new moratorium, without which the Palestinians did not accept to return to the negotiating table.
The meeting held today the two leaders in the Oval Office for Obama opens what will be a week dedicated almost exclusively to the Middle East.
On Thursday, U.S. President is scheduled to deliver the State Department in a speech on the Middle East which will address the processes of change in the Middle East through peaceful demonstrations. According
has advanced the White House, Obama will highlight the example of these processes against the model representing the leader of the terrorist network Al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden, died in a U.S. commandos operating in Pakistan last day 1.
On Friday, Obama will at the White House to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and on Sunday will address the annual conference of the Public Affairs Committee American Israel (AIPAC), the main Jewish lobby in America.

PI17/05/11 One rabbi said that the Jewish holy book, the Torah prohibits the formation of an Israeli state , expressing optimism that there is a total and peaceful dismantling of the system Israeli.
> In an interview with Press TV, Rabbi Yisroel Dovid Weiss of Neturei Karta International, said, "For us as Jews, is even greater Nakba," and that Zionism and the creation of Israel is equivalent to the transformation of Judaism on the basis of materialism.
> Weiss describes Zionism as a political ideology grounded in the blasphemy, as it promotes the belief that "God protects us, and we must have our own protection."
> "God left us three oaths during the period of King Solomon, we must never rebel against any nation in which we are citizens and legal residents should not return en masse to the Holy Land, and we should not make any attempt to end the exile. Thus, the concept of Jewish sovereignty is forbidden in Judaism, "said Weiss.
> Weiss presented documents suggesting that before the formation of the State of Israel, Chief Rabbi of Palestine Jewish community had expressed its opposition to the formation of a state in its communications with officials of the United Nations in 1947.
> However, the Zionist regime was to establish a state on behalf of Judaism, giving a Jewish name which they claim is "a divine theme."
> The rabbi said that the Jews in Palestine and around the world are not happy with the regime, as they are exiling Palestinians from their homes, and all the atrocities and suffering that have been committed against Palestinians in the past 60 years.
> The biggest hit of the Zionist regime was to create an enemy in the Palestinian victims, instead of showing gratitude for the hundreds of years that the Arabs referred to us as our gracious hosts at a safe haven. "
> "Every day we see a new tragedy. We grieve, as this is more than a Nakba, but a double or a triple Nakba and atrocities are done in our name," said Weiss.
> "So we want a decommissioning rapid, total and peaceful state without hindrance to peace, "he said.
> Referring to the peaceful coexistence for hundreds of years of" very religious "Christians, Muslims and Jews, before the establishment of bodies promoting world peace as the United Nations and human rights organizations, Weiss lamented that, however, the Zionist regime continues its efforts [unlawful] to gain global legitimacy demonizing the Palestinians through the use of misleading labels such as anti-Semitism.
> Protesters in many countries have been commemorating the 63 anniversary of the Nakba, or day of the disaster, making call for an end to decades of occupation of Palestine by the Israeli regime.

The boat Spirit of Rachel Corrie was attacked today by Israel in international waters 16/05/2011
The mission The Spirit of Rachel Corrie, with the participation of Malaysia boat loaded with humanitarian aid for Palestine has been intercepted and attacked by Israeli naval forces in the Palestinian security this morning at 6:54 a.m. local time. The ship with 12 crew and passengers are safe. The ship has been forced to anchor in Egyptian waters a mile and a half sailing the waters of Gaza.
The latter incident occurred hours after the sad commemoration of the Nakba in which many Palestinians were killed. Nakba, the Arabic word for catastrophe, "the expulsion and dispossession of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homes and lands in 1948." The humanitarian initiative is sponsored by Perdana Global Peace Foundation (PGPF) and participate in this mission antiwar activists and journalists from Asia, America and Europe.
mission crew on board the Spirit of Rachel Corrie
The cargo ship called the Spirit of Rachel Corrie (officially known as Finch) has 7.5 miles of PVC pipe (plastic) to help restore devastated sewage system in Gaza. The ship is named after the brave American activist crushed to death by an Israeli bulldozer in 2003 while trying to prevent the demolition of a Palestinian home. He died at age 23.
The Spirit of Rachel Corrie mission is part of the "Breaking the Gaza blockade" of the Perdana Global Peace Foundation (PGPF). The objective of this campaign is to show the effects of illegal blockade imposed by Israel and raise awareness of human rights violation in the population of Gaza. Break the blockade and end the illegal collective punishment of 1.5 million people should be a priority for the international community.
On December 27, 2008, the Israeli army launched Operation Cast Lead, which not only killed 1,400 Palestinians, but also destroyed vital infrastructure leaving Gaza's population with serious water problems. Infrastructure repair is impossible because that Israel prevents the entry of construction materials and fuel to meet this grave situation. According to a report by the group of Emergency Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (EWASH), "the daily emission of 80 million liters of water untreated or partially treated in the environment and in the Mediterranean Sea is primarily a result of the blockade Israel in the Gaza Strip. "
Gaza, one of the most densely populated in the world currently suffering serious health problems such as blue baby syndrome, diarrhea and other waterborne diseases like typhoid or hepatitis A. The World Health Organization warns of a possible cholera epidemic if we do not act quickly to address this health crisis.
According to Doctors for Human Rights-Israel: "Between 90% and 95% of aquifers in the Gaza Strip are not safe for consumption. The main cause of current problems stem from the destruction during Operation Lead Cast of "20 miles of water pipes, 7.5 miles wastewater pipes and 5700 mobile water tanks.
While Gazans are suffering dramatic environmental impacts of the sewage crisis, the effects have already reached the coast of Israel, and may extend to involve neighboring countries. The health and environmental issues must be addressed urgently. The international community must demand that the Israeli blockade ends.
The mission of the Spirit of Rachel Corrie emerges from pGFP participation in the Freedom Flotilla in 2010, where 9 activists were killed by Israeli commandos. Following a fact-finding mission carried out in Gaza in October 2010, PGPF decided to continue its efforts to help Palestinians and this project is the most immediate priorities. About PGPF

Andalusian Youth against Zionism and its genocidal violence
express our support and solidarity with the Palestinian resistance and their just struggle against oppression and imperialist and Zionist violence.
Before the latest attack carried out by the Zionist army of Israel, the Andalusian young revolutionary and internationalist wants to express:
• This latest attack has been carried out in a day of protests at international level under the Nakba (catastrophe), a name coined for the Palestinian people the day the United Nations as a body controlled by imperialism, adopted 63 years ago the proclamation of the State of Israel, certifying the colonial occupation of Zionism Palestinian territory.
• The attack, located on the borders of Syria and Lebanon, has caused far more than 14 people killed and hundreds have been wounded. Also in Gaza City Zionist attacks occurred where the result has been one person dead and many were injured. • That
again, the State of Israel, shows its imperialist character and genocidal killing Palestinians, using the only method that knows how to use imperialism: violence against peoples and nations.
• That, as expected, no international body legitimizing Zionism has delivered to the serious facts, ignoring Israel's violence and deaths.
• That the European and American imperialism, supporting Israel, condemning to death is only the Palestinian people, who lived for 63 years occupied and dispossessed of their lands, natural resources and the lives of thousands of casualties caused by Zionist genocide.
• That the English State as a prison of peoples and supportive of capitalism and imperialism, is complicit in all actions carried out Israel, not just by selling weapons being used against Palestinians, but also collaborate economically, socially and politically with the Zionist regime.
• That from our position of young internationalist, anti-capitalist and anti-imperialist, we can only condemn the State of Israel and its accomplices English, European and Americans as murderers of a people which has been usurped national sovereignty, their right to be and exist.
Finally, we express our support and solidarity with the Palestinian resistance and their just struggle against oppression and imperialist and Zionist violence. We understand that the only possible solution is the dismantling of the State of Israel and the complete independence of the Palestinian People.

U.S.
Obama wants changes, but he really does not change the Nobel Peace Prize no longer acts as it is, the president of the empire, defender of hegemony, of stealing the natural resources of other countries and interfering in the internal affairs of other nations.
As is starting his campaign, on May 13, last Friday, visited the city of Miami, possibly to celebrate the killing of Osama Bin Laden with the Miami mafia-gestapo and show that he is a "tough guy" , who ordered to kill anyone who gets put on the road.
took advantage of his stay in the "city of mourning" for the station WLTV Univision 23 allowed to shift their views on the relations between the U.S. and Cuba, which the station said, "to dampen prospects for rapid improvement in relations."
seems that the issue of better relations unnerving to many, both in Miami and Cuba. These are the living that relations are not normal, because they would end the influx of money to "fight against the communist regime" and would have to do something they have never wanted to do, work for a living. According
raised the Nobel Peace Prize, still in Cuba have not been made "real changes" that may be established "relationships normal, "he acknowledges that there have been" some discussions "but did not see that are being made on the island" real change ".
According to the master of change, which of course has very few of those promised in the last election campaign, "political prisoners remain in detention and should have been released long ago should never have been arrested." I think it is possible Obama was referring to political prisoners in jail that exists in the U.S. Naval Base Guantanamo detainees still have not been brought to trial, were tortured and never should have been arrested and less in the way they were, many of them kidnapped by the CIA. He continued
the representative of the "champions of freedom", "political dissent is still not tolerated and the economic system is still too limited." That is the same "official discourse" that would have delivered Bush or any that preceded it, which shows that U.S. policy toward Cuba has not changed, still as a basis to try to destroy the Cuban revolution, not trying to coexist with it.
After that sentence said something worth exploring deeply. Of course we're not going to ask you Mr. President analyze something deeply, that's what the advisers, who write these statements and he repeats it without thinking what he says. Let's see what he said:
"Castro came to power before I was born and is still there. Has basically the same system as the rest of the world has recognized not work "
The Cuban Revolution is over fifty years. Since its inception has been targeted by the United States, his enemy close and powerful world of aggression, blockade, invasion, acts of terrorism, sabotage, introduction of pests and diseases, attempted political and economic isolation, media warfare , attempts assassination of their leaders, propaganda campaigns to damage its international image and other punitive actions. AND TELL YOU, LORD OBAMA, THE SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK!
With half of these shares the existing capitalist system in the United States had blown up. Moreover, from time to time been in danger of collapse, as it was in 2009 to 700.000 million dollars required to save it. An external debt of more than 3,000,000 million dollars. A negative trade balance amounting to billions of dollars. Mr. Obama, to function more efficiently THE CAPITALIST SYSTEM!
Our system has struggled. With which you have created had enough. Others were created by our inexperience and mistakes. When we have understood we have made appropriate changes, such as those projected in the economy now, all to try to make the system more efficient, with greater benefits for the people, within the parameters of a socialist system that has proven its strength , among other things, to survive the attacks that his country has been directed against our own, since before you were born. Over the past
smear campaign organized by the CIA and their cronies, related to the death in Cuba of a person related to US-funded groups, Obama's aides took care not enough. They ignored all the questions raised by doctors and relatives of the deceased, who ruled out any kind of police violence and recognize the true motives of death due to illness he was suffering.
promoter oppression and police regime is being implemented in the United States, which has seen U.S. police beat up demonstrators and protestors, argue that "There have been thousands of people who have suffered as a result of oppression of the Cuban regime. "He said his relations policy" people to people "is made to try to bring more prosperity and freedom for the Cuban people. Once
Mr. Obama more wrong. His efforts to introduce and increase the political and ideological subversion in Cuba, with its instrument of political misnamed "people to people", which for the purposes that it should be called "ignore the revolutionary government" fails.
still do not understand anything, especially without understanding Cuba. Our willingness to talk has been raised several times. Is on equal terms, without interference in internal affairs, in a climate of mutual respect, accepting both as we are. We're going to ask him not to abandon the capitalist system to sit down and talk.

How To Identify Sailboats
Islam in Mexico
The 2010 Census counted three thousand 760 Muslims living in the country, from the fundamentalists to the moderate Chiapas DF Jorge Alejandro Medellín
Fifteen states of Mexico are seat communities professing Islam as their religion. The death of Osama Ben Laden, executed by U.S. Marines last May Day, revived surveillance on them are the governments of Mexico and the United States: in Nuevo Leon, Chihuahua, Michoacán, Veracruz, Chiapas, Oaxaca, Puebla, Coahuila, Jalisco, Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora, Morelos and the Federal District, Islamic groups remain under the microscope of the Centre for Investigation and National Security (CISEN), the Attorney General's Office ( PGR), the ministries of National Defense (SEDENA) and Navy (Semar), Federal Police (PF) and, of course, of the 16 security agencies operating a few blocks from the Embassy of the United States in the capital.
The Islamic community in Chiapas, split from the other groups for their tendencies, is one that remains under constant surveillance. In Michoacán, there is another core of adherents to Islam, guarded to prevent any possible rapprochement with the La Familia Michoacana cartel, whose leadership is sending a Messianic Christian religious nature.
HOW MANY AND WHERE?
latest official figures from the Mexican government on the number of Muslims and non-Arabs who profess Islam indicate that about four thousand people follow this religion in the country. The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) revealed in the Census of Population 2010 that three thousand 760 Muslims in Mexico, of which two thousand 368 thousand 392 are men and women, when in 2000 there were about 500 thousand Muslims in the country. The census does not provide even the stocks are located the largest concentrations of Muslims and how many of them are not born in Mexico.
Meanwhile, in the last five years (2005 to 2010), the National Migration Institute (INM) recorded legal entry to the country of 41 thousand 825 passengers from 14 Arab and Muslim countries (Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia Bahrain, UAE, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Pakistan, Palestine, Syria, Turkey, Libya and Tunisia) where Islam is the predominant religion. The frequency of visits to Mexico by travelers from countries Muslim or Islamic belief is growing. The document "air tickets by continent and country of citizenship 2005-2010", presents a list of around 270 nationalities of visitors, where the first among Islamic countries is occupied by moderate Turkey, with 12 thousand 360 Muslims of visitors Mexico.
The second site is occupied by Iran, with nine thousand 450 visitors, the third site is in Lebanon, with five thousand 966 entries, followed by Pakistan, with four thousand 538 income, and in fifth place is Saudi Arabia, with two thousand 608 travelers. Indicated that most airports arrived mainly located in resorts such as San Jose del Cabo, Cancun, Cozumel, Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, Mexico City, Manzanillo, Huatulco, Ciudad del Carmen, Merida, Mazatlán, Puerto Escondido, Tijuana, Chetumal, Acapulco, Zihuatanejo and Merida, among others. UNDER THE LENS
"We watch, we know that we recorded, our listeners, who are attentive to what we do, but have no fear," said Muhammad Al Meksiki Ruiz, director of Mexico's Salafi (CSM) established in 2004 and one of the most important for the followers of Islam in the country. "He who owes nothing, fears nothing," added Al Meksiki to remember that the terrorist attacks in September 2001 severely damaged, the persecution and prejudice against him multiplied. People stopped going to mosques, stopped going out as a precaution. Eventually all that was forgotten and gradually recovered the pace of life and mosques became re-populated, he says. Ruiz says Al Meksiki Osama bin Laden, the slain leader of Al Qaeda was carving out his own end, one where their actions were finally imposed the punishment Allah that ended his life.
But for Muslims in Mexico, the surveillance continues. State agents come and go through the centers and prayer meeting of Islamic groups in the country, and they know they are infiltrated, but not worried: "I assure you We have done good in many ways, we have helped groups and sectors of Mexican society with our presence, most of us have good work, good business, pay taxes, constantly studying the Koran and the Sunna and are good people " .
IN ALERT
In Coahuila, according to national security, one or two Islamic centers located by intelligence elements have been linked to common law crimes such as theft of auto parts, theft or forgery passer and piracy. They so far the only identified as problematic by the Mexican government. Outside of that scenario, the intelligence agencies and military have not identified potential risks or Islamic terror alerts on Mexican soil, much less the presence of cells or sympathizers of Al Qaeda.
In Chiapas, another group of Islamic fundamentalists characteristics are carefully monitored by intelligence agencies and Mexican Americans, and even other communities professing the same religion in the country. They created a little over three years the site of El Islam in Mexico (http://islammexico.org.mx), have dozens of members from the Middle East and Spain, have made some 400 indigenous Tzotzil Islam and carry out four projects of human and community development based on structure Guild as a basis for a society that must be kept away from capitalism, usury, the accumulation of wealth and human degradation.
The Web site details the organization's education projects, Woodworking, Food Preparation and those who are looking to save the indigenous people of Chiapas to "degeneration, slavery and exploitation." For this group Islamic organization Al Qaeda is a kind of myth created by the powerful to attack and discredit Islam, "is a phantom organization, a trademark that sets the seal on the most heinous acts of barbarism. Killings of innocent nasty for any human being. " Al Qaeda is "the kind of terror, this phantom organization that nobody has ever seen, has the effect of signal Muslims, all Muslims as the perpetrators of such heinous acts," the English-language site designed and riddled with images Tzotzil Indians dressed as Muslims, praying and following the Islamic rite. "We are introducing Islam in Mexico. Islam spreads in Mexico: Mexico's spiritual connection with Islam is stronger than you can imagine. Islam in Mexico is strengthened every day. Islam is growing in Latin America, Islam in Chiapas is a surprising fact, Islam is as strange as indigenous natural " is posted on the site.
While Islam tries to gain more fans in Mexico, the Department of U.S. Homeland Security (DHS, for its acronym in English) is providing data on the presence of potential perpetrators of Muslim or Islamic religion in Mexico. His most recent book, released in June 2010, indicated that during fiscal year 2009 were detained at the border with Mexico 125 illegal immigrants of Syrian origin, Sudanese, Pakistani, Iranian, Iraqi, Lebanese, Yemeni, Nigerian, Somali, Algerian and Saudi Arabia. Among those arrested caught the attention Daniel Joseph Maldonado and Miguel Alfonso Salinas, both seized with documentation certifying them as Mexicans.
U.S. security officials say, Maldonado has ties with Somali rebel groups and received terrorist training in Somalia in 2007. He was caught trying to enter the United States to seek to indoctrinate young students and turn them into human bombs. As Miguel Alfonso Salinas was arrested at the international bridge in New Mexico in 2006. He was subjected to interrogation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI, for its acronym in English), he discovered his real name: Ayman Kamal Sulmane, and nationality: Egyptian.
